Clair Obscur

Live Performance with organ
Collégiale de Neuchâtel / CH / 2011

This project was born out of the desire of three AntiVJ artists (Simon Geilfus, Thomas Vaquié & Yannick Jacquet) to create an audiovisual experience in which a religious building (Collégiale de Neuchâtel) and its instrument (an organ) is confronted with contemporary digital arts. Employing the latest digital technology, they created a dialogue between the church’s architecture, the organ and electronic music, using the church’s vault and walls as an abstract narrative framework.

Through the use of these new technologies they shed new light on the unique value of this milestone in Nechâtel’s architecture and history, a building that seldomly hosts such performances.

Moreover, presenting this performance in an untraditional context gave the three AntiVJ artists a chance to reach an audience that is not necessarily familiar with contemporary digital art.

This performance is part of a series of works by different members of the AntiVJ label. Similar performances have been held  in january 2009 at the « Grote Kerk » (Breda, Netherlands) and at « le Temple de Gervais » (Geneva, Switzerland), in may 2010.
